Calling all Educators - I Need Your Experiences on: Are Gen Z's choosing Trade Qualifications over University Degrees ? (for a Keynote and workshop I'm researching and delivering)The recent Australian Federal Budget prioritised funding for trade apprenticeships, signalling a renewed focus on skilled trades. A recent Guardian article talked about Millennial's and Gen Z's actively choosing a trade over a Uni degree - https://lnkd.in/gy7pez4h.It seems that a generational career shift may actually feed into a Government policy, but I'm not so sure.So my question is: "Are you witnessing this trade school revival happening here in Australia?"Please, I'd love your first hand experiences and thoughts below. Thanks in advance!#FutureofEducation #GenZ #TradeSchools #AusEdu #AusEdChat #TAFE #VocationalTraining #Apprenticeships #SkilledTrades #EducationPolicy #EducationLeaders #EducationProviders #UniversityLife #SchoolLeadership #FutureOfWork #Careers #EducationSummit #EducationConference #SpeakerLife #EducationTalks #EducationInnovation #LearningAndDevelopment

🎓College vs Trade School👨🏭I attended a college meet and greet with my teenage son this week. I was shocked that amongst 60+ colleges/universities. There was not one trade school represented, nor did the local colleges present information on their apprenticeship or trade programs. 🎓🛠️ Let's talk about an important choice - college vs trade school! 🤔🏫 College is a great choice for those seeking a broad education and long-term career options. It offers a wide range of subjects to explore, critical thinking skills, and an opportunity to network with diverse individuals. However, it often comes with a hefty price tag and several years of commitment.👨🔧 On the other hand, trade school provides specialized training in specific fields like plumbing, electrical work, carpentry, and more. It offers hands-on experience, industry-focused knowledge, and faster entry into the workforce. Plus, it can save you both time and money compared to pursuing a traditional four-year degree.🌟 Both college and trade school have their merits, and the choice ultimately depends on your interests, goals, and personal circ*mstances. It's essential to evaluate your strengths, passion, and career aspirations before making a decision.🚀 Here are a few reasons why trade school might be the perfect fit for some individuals:1️⃣ Hands-on Learning: Trade schools emphasize practical experience, allowing you to master skills that are immediately applicable in the workplace. No theoretical concepts without real-world application!2️⃣ Faster Entry and Less Debt: With shorter programs and lower tuition fees, trade school graduates can start earning sooner and carry less student debt. It's a surefire way to jumpstart your career!3️⃣ In-Demand Skills: Skilled tradespeople are in high demand across various industries. Whether you're repairing infrastructure, building houses, or maintaining machinery, your expertise will be highly sought after.🙌 Ultimately, the choice between college and trade school depends on your unique circ*mstances and goals. Whichever path you choose, remember that continuous learning and adapting to evolving industry demands are crucial for success in today's fast-paced world.🔗 Let's start a conversation! Are you a college graduate or a trade school alum? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments below. Let's celebrate the diversity of educational journeys and inspire others to pursue their passions! 🌟💼#TradeSchool #CollegeVsTradeSchool #CareerPath #EducationJourney #SkillsMatter #college

Another school year is almost over which means that another group of school leavers are about to embark on a career journey that will define much of the rest of their lives. But we exist in a culture that places primacy on University education and relegates many other forms to second or third options. This is despite the fact that only 58% of year 12 leavers from 2022 are currently studying for a non-school qualification according to the ABS.Heading to University straight out of high school isn’t for everyone. It definitely wasn’t for me or many people that I know and care about. With so many amazing opportunities that can become available to people in their lifetimes, a young person’s life shouldn’t be limited by what they do immediately after finishing high school. And with a persistent skills shortage which looks set to only worsen, trade careers should also be promoted as the immensely rewarding and fulfilling prospect that they can be 👷♀️👷♂️.My piece in The New Daily.#career #apprenticeships #trades #pathways

This is one of the best articles I've read that explains the history, progression, funding and IMPORTANCE of #CTE programs. ⭐ *****Did you know that #CTE (career and technical education) programs are offered in 98% of public school districts in the U.S.? ✅ As noted below, #CTE programs prepare students for the workforce by providing a variety of career exploration and skillsets that set them up for success. A number of organizations, including Explore The Trades and Skilled Trades Advisory Council, fit into these conversations by providing information that's complementary to what's being taught in schools. And don't forget about industry partners! Small businesses and corporations can support these programs AND build their talent pipeline by creating relationships with school districts in their markets. ❗ ❗ "Career and technical education — or CTE — prepares young people for skilled, high-demand, and well-paid jobs through classroom instruction and on-the-job training. It is one example of Americans’ growing support foropportunity pluralism. This approach replaces the K-12 “college for all” model of the last25 yearsor so with a model that recognizes a college degree is only one of many effective pathways to prepare for good jobs, opportunity, and human flourishing."
