| Epyon9283 Premium Member 2002-Jan-7 4:40 pm Horrible Speed in Central NJIm getting 86/105 kbps now and the status light on the modem is blinking every couple of seconds. Does anyone know what the blinking status light means? A comcast guy came to the house today(when of course the modem was working) and replaced the splitter and he thought that might be enough to fix this intermittent problem(that Ive had since Christmas) but apparently he was wrong... |

billdo5 | billdo5 Member 2002-Jan-7 5:52 pm I'm in rahway. I het a blistering 690 down and a zoomy 110 up with CONcast Low-Speed Internet. You can tweak your system by following the instructions »www.speedguide.net/Cable ··· ry.shtml The status light activity you are seeing are scans done by hackers, NIMDA virus-infected servers, or reflected packets from a bad router in the form of ICMP time exceeded hits. Hopefully you have a personal, free firewall set up so nobody reads/co-opts your hard drive. See here : Good luck... |

| SanguineLust to Epyon9283 Member 2002-Jan-7 6:25 pm I just got 2640/119 in Plainfield. I have 2 other computers running Anarchy Online at the same time while I ran the test on this comp. 86 down is really bad. I read in a post saturday about making sure your ethernet card is running at half duplex and not full. The person said that instantly fixed his/her problem. Sorry I don't have the post address but try that and see what happens. |

If it's blinking like a strobelight and then goes off for a minute and starts up again (my Toshiba calls that the cable light) that means that something is wrong with your internet. Good luck trying to get help, I waited 30 minutes on hold for a tech to say 'I don't know a thing.' |

| iluvmycablemodem to Epyon9283 Member 2002-Jan-7 8:06 pm Okay, I called Comcast again (no hold times!) and tried to figure out why my network was slow. Hmm, instead of someone clueless, I got someone who was kind of rude. me - 'I'm just curious, what's the bandwidth rated on the new network?' I seriously doubt that we will get normal service till the end of May. |

NO! No it does not. That is a normal part of the cable modem service. Usually communication between your NIC and cable modem. PS. How far are you away from OOL country? I have some family down in Kendall Park. |

iluvmycablemodem | iluvmycablemodem to Epyon9283 Member 2002-Jan-7 8:11 pm Don't think we have any OOL users within 20 miles... all Comcast down here. (I wasn't sure with the strobelight cable light... that's what was happening to me right after I got 'transitioned') |

| Epyon9283 Premium Member 2002-Jan-7 8:33 pm Well now my speed dropped down to 29(down)/50(up) kbps. So does anyone actually know what the blinking light means? My cable modem is hooked up to my SMC Barricade... Also, this isnt a result of the transition because it has been happening since Christmas. |

| Epyon9283 Premium Member 2002-Jan-8 9:52 am Its not normal... If it was, everyone would be getting the download speed that I am. Also, there are no OOL people anywhere near me. Comcast is a monopoly in the township I live in. |

rsi582 | rsi582 to Epyon9283 Member 2002-Jan-8 10:10 am i am in south brunswick, and since the transition have gotten decent speed of 1000-1300 from nyc.speakeasy...for sure its been spotty, there is packet loss etc...seems senseless as of now to complain, as things will likely get crazier as they add more "victims"...nonetheless, your speeds are not normal, so i guess you must complain... |

| hockeyfun1$ to Epyon9283 Premium Member 2002-Jan-8 4:52 pm Yes it is normal. As I said it is activity between your NIC and computer, or if you are using the net, then it is data being transfered. |

A Blinking STATUS light isnt normal. A blinking Activity light is when there is activity. The STATUS light isnt supposed to blink during the course of normal operations. Unless the status light is solid green, SOMETHING IS WRONG! |
